Meopham Art Group

The Meopham Art Group formed in 1985 began with a small but dedicated membership, which over the last 23 years has grown in strength and numbers. It was the brainchild of Eric Bugg to gather together likeminded people to provide a focus for local artists to give support and encouragement to each other through working together on a regular basis, also to have the objective of holding an annual exhibition.
Initially the group met on Tuesday evenings at Meopham School art room, but the K.C.C. timetable became somewhat restricting, so in 1989 the opportunity was offered to meet on Thursday evenings, without term-time restrictions, at the Baptist Church Rooms in Meopham, the offer was welcomed by all. As membership grew space became a problem so in 2003 a move to Hopehill Scouts Hall was arranged and it has become the permanent meeting place from September through to mid. May. There is a set number of 36 members with, currently, a short waiting-list.
The standard of work shown at M.A.G.’s exhibitions has generally improved with each successive year. The autumn/ winter programmes are quite varied with occasional visiting demonstrators, costumed models and experimental work etc.
During the summer months the group meet in St. John’s car park for painting trips locally with days arranged for journeys further afield once a month.
The group is always happy to see as many visitors as possible to the Annual Exhibitions, which are advertised on Radio Kent, in the Meopham Review and posters in surrounding areas. Also visitors are most welcome to demonstration evenings (at a nominal fee)
Meopham Art Group is affiliated to The Gravesham Arts Council.
